teh orbs

look what i got from CeBIT 😉 – Those little gizmos can glow in thousands of colors…you can switch between the colors (well.. not all..yet.. i think i’ll modify them)… and a mode that cycles seemlessly through all the colors.

its blue.

its red and green.

its from Microsoft…

I just thought about modifying them – because they are battery powered i like to get them an appropriate power supply and maybe an usb interface … would be great to see them pulse when an eMail or instant message arrives….

    “its from Microsoft…”

    And as usual:

    It’s a rip off.

    Try http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/5da2/ .
You won’t even have to “modify” them because all features you are talking about are already included. You might want to check out other stuff from http://www.mathmos.co.uk , too.

I woulnd’t be surprised if Mathmos had a patent on “glowing thingies you can manipulate via usb”. SCNR

    ThinkGeek:
    $149.99
requires some “nationwide” wireless US network

    “CeBIT” orbs:
    free gifts
10€ for several orbs from 1-2-3.tv

okay look Sebastian: how many CeBIT orbs, as pck calls them, could i build from these gifts when i do not buy the ThinkGeek one for 149 bucks…

… and your patent discussion point: IAM NOT GOING TO SELL THEM – maybe i will release the modding instructions with pictures to the public domain… but iam definitly not going to sell them. So why are you pointing at the patents that maybe, maybe not exist.

You’re talking about money? Aren’t all of us well paid developers at some anti-trust law violating software giant?!

Anyhow – I’ve just informed Mathmos that Microsoft and those 1-2-3.tv guys might be violating their intellectual property. Thanks for your advice.
