August 14th, 2006 No comments

Even more great news from Microsoft:

“XNA Game Studio Express is a new offering, targeted at students and hobbyists for game development. XNA Game Studio is based on Visual C# Express 2005 and lets developers target both Windows and Xbox 360. XNA Game Studio Express contains the following:

  • The XNA Framework, a set of managed code development libraries which will allow game developers to be more productive when creating games for Windows and the Xbox 360.
  • The XNA Framework Content Pipeline which is a set of tools that allow developers to more easily incorporate 3D content into their games.
  • XNA Game Studio Express also contains a full set of documentation, how-to’s and starter-kits that demonstrate how best to utilize the content pipeline and XNA Framework. “

July 31st, 2006 2 comments

the UK Academic Team Blog writes:

“The big kahuna – a source-code release of the Windows Kernel. The WRK is useful in design projects that let your students explore OS principles using the Windows kernel sources, the WRK enables advanced teaching and research by facilitating building experiments and projects based on modifying the Windows kernel, as well as by promoting better understanding of the Windows architecture and implementation.”

Microsoft released the Windows Mobile Device Emulator (ARM CPU) Sourcecode

July 22nd, 2006 No comments

Once again an very interesting piece of software made it to the Shared Source family.

“The Device Emulator is a software simulation of a CPU and motherboard, that runs the Windows CE and Windows Mobile operating systems. The emulator is a single Windows .EXE file that contains:

  • A CPU emulator that executes the ARM instruction set by JIT-compiling to x86
  • An MMU emulator to support virtual memory and page protection
  • A motherboard emulator that contains emulated RAM and NOR flash memory
  • A collection of peripheral devices attached to the motherboard: serial ports, LCD controller, touchscreen, keyboard, interrupt controller, programmable timers, real-time-clock, network cards, audio, etc.
  • A “DMA” interface which allows a Win32 application running outside the emulator to communicate with a WinCE application running inside the emulator, using a simple socket-like programming model. “

ActiveSync 4.2 beta preview available…

June 11th, 2006 No comments

As of this weekend the beta version of ActiveSync 4.2 is available for download.

“Microsoft ActiveSync provides a great synchronization experience with Windows powered PCs and Microsoft Outlook right out of the box. ActiveSync acts as the gateway between your Windows powered PC and Windows Mobile powered device, enabling the transfer of Outlook information, Office documents, pictures, music, videos and applications from your desktop to your device. In addition to synchronizing with a desktop PC, ActiveSync can synchronize directly with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 so that you can keep your e-mail, Calendar, Notes, and Contacts updated wirelessly when you’re away from your PC.”

No change-log so far. So please try for yourself on a non-production machine with a non-production Windows Mobile device. Thank you.

.NET Framework 3.0 was WinFX…

June 10th, 2006 No comments

The .NET Framework is an immensely successful programming model that has strong positive connotations among customers, developers, and partners. Effectively immediately, we are renaming “WinFX” to “.NET Framework 3.0” because of the strong affinity developers have with the .NET Framework brand name. All WinFX components will now be included within the .NET Framework 3.0. There is no change to the ship schedule of Windows Vista or the .NET Framework 3.0 and the .NET Framework 3.0 will still ship in Windows Vista. Apart from the branding change, the plan of record has not changed whatsoever.

The change is in name only and will not affect the
technologies being delivered as part of the product. The .NET Framework
3.0 is still comprised of the existing .NET Framework 2.0 components,
including ASP.NET, WinForms, ADO.NET, additional base class libraries
and the CLR, as well as new developer-focused innovative technologies
in WPF, WCF, WF and WCS:

ROTOR 2.0 is available… dive deep into .NET 2.0 CLI…

March 29th, 2006 No comments

“The Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) is the ECMA standard that describes the core of the .NET Framework world. The Shared Source CLI is a compressed archive of the source code to a working implementation of the ECMA CLI and the ECMA C# language specification.

The current release builds and runs on Windows XP only. It is released under a Shared Source initiative. It is released under a shared source initiative. Please see the accompanying license.

The Shared Source CLI goes beyond the printed specification of the ECMA standards, providing a working implementation for CLI developers to explore and understand. It will be of interest to academics and researchers wishing to teach and explore modern programming language concepts, and to .NET developers interested in how the technology works.”

Today is all about GUI :-) So it’s the perfect time to point you to a gallery that shows the brand new UI of Office 2007 Beta 1.

yes, this is word…

I really do like the new interface – I am using it for some builds now and it’s in the first place not what you would expect from Microsoft. It’s designed and features high usability… and when you will start using it you will acclimate really fast like I did.
