FIWAK takes place from 20. to 22. June 2008 in the forest around Elgersburg – a small town near Ilmenau. But now watch the trailer:

It’s the 5th FIWAK (FemImWaldAußerKontrolle) taking place from 20th to 22nd June 2008 in the Forest (Freilichtbühne) near Elgersburg/Germany.

During FIWAK I had the chance to play a bit with a Canon EOS 20D. It’s proper DSLR and you can do many great things with it. All the pictures below where done without a tripod. As you can see there are a few ghost pictures but less than I expected in that mode. Nevertheless my Canon PowerShot A400 is better for panoramic views – the EOS is way to big and heavy, you surely need a tripod to do proper panoramic views whereas you can do quite good panoramic views with the A400 without a tripod.

After last years FIWAK, FeM is back in the forest. This year with even more hardware, even more people and even more tents.

The first lecture starts in just a few minutes so stay tuned for more news on the FIWAK 06.

Im Rahmen der Mitgliederversammlung 2006 legt der aktuelle Vorstand sein Amt nieder!

Ihre Arbeit fortsetzen und somit erneut Kandidieren wollen

Susanne Wolf steht nicht für eine erneute Kandidatur zur Verfügung.

Weiterhin möchte Martin Heller für den Vorstand kandidieren.
Dieser stellt sich im folgenden vor:

Ziele des neuen Vorstandes sind unter anderem:

• Fortsetzung der Arbeit des bisherigen Vorstandes


• weitere Zusammenarbeit mit der Uni, um FeM uniweit zu etablieren und so auch Anrechnung von Studienarbeiten etc. Aktiven zu erleichtern


• Zusammenarbeit mit anderen FeM-ähnlichen Vereinen, um gemeinsame Ziele besser vertreten zu können und KnowHow zu bündeln


• unterstützen von in Entwicklung befindlichen Vereinen mit unserem Fachwissen


• Verbesserung der Kommunikation der Mitglieder und Projekte untereinander


• endgültige Einbindung des iSTUFF in die FeM


• Intensivierung der Zusammenarbeit mit anderen uninahen Vereinen


• Erhöhung der Öffentlichkeitswirkung um mehr Aktive zu gewinnen

Food is one of the cornerstones of the FIWAK. And because this is an all-inclusive trip food is provided for the crowd.

After a very very disturbing night the chef was brought into the nearest hospital…so they needed a new one… and there he was: Maedness and his crew made a delicious potato soup. Great!

Christian “Aero” Koch made is talk about MacOS X and the Apple product line…quite interesting and informative.

On 1700 the second FeM e.V. FIWAK started. To explain it short what that is:

Around 40 people go into the forest. Take a power generator and a huge number of network and computer equipment with them. 3 big tents and several small ones… of course Wireless LAN Internet access everywhere…

In diesem Bild ist das Internet und die Firewall gut zu erkennen. Das Internet hier in apartem Rot mit schwarz-gelben Kabel Applikationen – die Firewall ganz in schlichtem Braun mit je zwei weissen Kabel Applikationen.

Das VJ Team und die Hardware. Schaut euch an was sie aus einer schönen Xbox gemacht haben . Aber was tun die Jungs nicht alles damit dyne:bolic auf Hardware läuft die dafür garantiert nie gedacht war.

WLAN Hardware ™

WLAN Hardware 2 ™ – hat man ja auch nicht oft – im Zelt wird die Netzdichte schon in Accesspoints/Kubik-Fuss angegeben.

Wärend des VJ-Workshops… schick schick schicke Leute.

Letzes Jahr sollte das Fiwak schon stattfinden – leider wurde das von zu trockenem Wetter und der daraus resultierenden Waldbrand-Warnstufe verhindert. Aber in diesem Jahr ist das Wetter gnädig und der Waldbrand nicht in Sicht – also findet es statt. Das erste Fiwak der FeM e.V.. Die Location ist richtig nett… die Freilichtbühne Elgersburg.

Offensichtlich verlief beim Aufbau eines der Zelte nicht alles glatt – die Versicherung regelt das (hoffentlich).

Leider kann ich nicht mitzelten bzw. die ganze Zeit mit Vorort sein – ich muss darf am Samstag noch eine Vorlesung besuchen… naja.

Das fertig aufgebaute Zelt macht dann doch schon wirklich was her… natürlich lässt sich eine Forschungsgemeinschaft nicht lumpen und hat die gesamte Freilichtbühne mit WLAN versorgt…

Momentan sitze ich hier und lausche dem Workshop des VJ-Teams welches uns einiges interessantes über effecTV erzählt…
