There is this XGL stuff which hardware accelerates the linux desktop – but since there are many movies that show the magnificence of this there is actually no real way to try it for ourselves – except when we would compile it ourselves… and that’s,…. well no solution at all.
So – I am searching for a not-too-much-pain bringing way of trying this XGL stuff…

I second that! But I think I need to take the pain and try compiling this stuff myself. Just need to check my calendar… Ehem, seems like 2009 is going to be a year with some time left. Damn 9-5 job!
So give me that live CD already!
you might want to try ubuntu dapper drake 6.04 dev release for that.
and follow the instructions here:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=127090
i got it running here okay.
on a sony vaio, mobile athlon xp 2000+ geforce go 420 (16mb shared).
no compiling… although you’ll need to install it to your hd.
and you will need a nvidia card (at least for me and my radeon 9800pro @ home it didnt work..)
regards..
sorry to post again ;)
looks like with the dapper live cd it is possible
to test xgl without hd install – but it needs some work!
