++++ NEWS +++ GOOGLE PREDICTS EVERLASTING LIGHT BULB AND COLD FUSION +++

Oh well that’s not really news. Some say that Google utilizes the “big harddrive” that’s inside our planet earth… and some say that even gravity does not apply for google employees….

In fact… that’s all bullshit. Please Google. Be careful with words like “unlimited” … more text over here

what happened last night…

I really really hate those moments. This morning around 0100 AM the server that hosts schrankmonster and some more websites crashed after more than 200 days of flawless operation. I arrived at the server room at around 2 and rebooted the machine – but it did not boot – instead it kept rebooting and rebooting…

I turned it off and decided to come back after some hours of sleep with fresh diagnose software and a just-in-case operating system install cd…

Well I turned the machine on, booted into memtest86 and no errors were found… I rebooted and voilá – the machine came up and everything worked.

What the hell was that? :-( Any hints? (no there is nothing of interest in the system event logs)

blast from the 11 year old past… Sony will use MPEG-2 on BlueRay?

That’s exactly what I was frightened off. If it’s true – what are those morons thinking?! (are they?)

Anyways – they have to fill at least 9 Gbytes of space. And in times of MPEG4/AVC/WMVHD when 720p movies with full 5.1 sound are only around 4-5 Gbytes… you have to find a way to fuck the customer.

So – expect great MPEG2 HDTV movies with 3-4 times the size of their current-generation encoded equivalents… and all that just to fill the space… What’s the point in having the space and the technology when we’re not going to use it?

uhh, so the Intel Yonah comes with 64-bit?!… that’s news!

We all know that some of the newer Pentium 4 processors have the EMT64 extensions – which are just the licensed AMD64 commandsets poorly emulated by the Intel processor.

Now the news came up that the current “Intel Core Duo” Chip – whose codename is “Yonah” also has such a EMT64 extensions. That would make it quite interesting to see how some of the 64 bit operating systems perform on the chip…I doubt it would be faster than the 32 bit – but at least more features means more fun for the geek.

so these next-gen consoles are all about circles? Sony vs. Microsoft

We all know the Xbox 360 Ring-of-Light green circles logo below. It’s just everywhere these days. So concentrate on the Ring-of-Light and scroll down:

Xbox 360 Ring-of-Light

So since this weekend the CES 2006 website of Sony is online. At the CES 2006 Sony is supposed to show details and in-depth information about the upcoming Playstation 3. And well the site looks more like if they have to tell us something about the Xbox 360:

Rings-of-Light?

This is quite funny – I wouldn’t bet it’s not a marketing gag but if it’s not it’s funny and stupid. Please Sony! More information on your vaporware!

what is simultaneous about the 360 launch?!

I read and heard this many times:

“Before the opening of the Tokyo Game Show in Japan, Microsoft will say that it plans to launch the Xbox 360 on Nov. 22 in North America, on Dec. 2 in Europe, and Dec. 10 in Japan. Mitch Koch, corporate vice president of global retail sales for the Xbox division, said in an interview that the company’s contract manufacturers are on schedule to simultaneously launch in all markets worldwide, something that has never been done before in the video game industry.”

So WHAT exactly is simultaneous about November 22th, December 2nd and December 10th?!

Wikipedia says:

“Simultaneity is the property of two events happening at the same time in at least ONE Reference frame”

It wouldn’t be that big problem for my understanding when they just won’t even pinpoint on the fact that “this has never been done before”… They are probably right: Never before a company managed to make us believe that November the 22th, Devenmber 2nd and December 10th are the exact same day.

nuff said.

hex168 = 360

It seems that there is another cool viral concept going on these days regarding the upcoming Xbox 360 launch in november/december.

The point seems to be that the roman numbers I, VI, VIII in these crop-circles are 168. And all links point to the website hex168.com which shows us the same circle:

Since hex 168 is 360 decimal…

Sounds weird? Yes. Cool, eh?

it’s revealed… oh well… again: sort of… What is Origen?

So what is OrigenXbox360? It’s… I don’t really know. This viral marketing is going on and on like the first season of LOST. You are told some details – at least you think they are details….and then it’s some weird bunnies and trees and…

You see: It’s strange and it’s getting worse…of course you’re as ususal recommended to comment this article to exercise you’re right of free speech.

TechEd Europe 2005: the RFID conspiracy

there’s a little sticker on the every TechEd 205 badge and they say it’s an experiment/demonstration for the keynote which is going to take place tomorrow. Infact the paper I’ve got with the badge said that there is indeed an RFID device embedded into the sticker. That device holds a random number (approx. the one printed on the sticker). The deal is that there seems to be a demonstration how the people are coming into the keynote hall…some kind of monitoring – probably a demonstration that modern RFID technology doesn’t surrender when 6000+ RFIDs are going to enter the same room.

of course I’ve taken a closer look:

Nothing really new or interesting. Anyone that knows something about those tags?

my next “PDA” ?

This whole Tablet PC thing is getting huge. And If you ever used one of those you probably know what I mean. Tablet PCs can and will change the way we deal with information. PDAs changed a lot. But Appointments, Tasks, Contacts, Notes and fragmentary eMail support is not enough. I want to do nearly everything I can do with my PC. Just several form factors smaller.

There’s something coming up the next months… and maybe it looks like this:

A tablet PC that deserves the name “palmtop”…approx. 500g in weight, 8 hours battery life, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition…. I want one…NOW!

the viral marketing trap aka Xbox 360

the speculations about the upcoming Xbox 360 increase rapidly. It’s fun to see everything going nuts these days ;) And so does engadget:

“So what are we looking at? A power button? A removable hard drive? A slideout tray for the optical drive? The only thing we know for certain is that we’ve all fallen into Microsoft’s viral marketing trap, that’s for damn sure.”

random event generators freaking out: global consciousness project

The random event generators are freaking out since the pope died today…coincidence? It’s part of the global consciousness project like elgono said… so check it out… beside that it’s a cool bleeping-soundy thing ;)

“The Java Basket Observer is an applet that allows for a near-realtime (10-minute delay) inspection of the behavior of a network random event generators (REG’s) located at several places of the world. Data from these REG’s, also called EGGs, are collected at a central computer, the Basket. The Java applet contacts the basket at regular intervals, gets the data, and displays it in various formats.”

This Xbox Protection Cord disconnects power to the Xbox console if it detects an electrical problem
